ANTICIPATED
(2026-27 School Year)
SECONDARY SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
The following position is posted in accordance with the negotiated agreement:
POSITION
1.0 FTE - The Akron Central School District is seeking applicants for one (1) secondary special education teachers (Probationary Appointment)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of New York State Learning Standards, resources and classroom management
Understanding of various disabilities, teaching strategies, and behavioral management techniques.
Excellent communication skills and ability to create a positive student-centered learning environment.
Utilization of student assessments and data processes to identify programmatic needs, as well as target support for individual students.
Collaborate with faculty and grade level teams to design, modify, and implement effective lesson (unit) plans following an ICT model.
Knowledge of the principles and methods for instruction at the Secondary level.
Demonstrate ability to design and implement lessons to meet the learning needs of students with varying levels of ability.
Strong knowledge of IEP development and instructional best
NYS fingerprint clearance and required professional development workshop completion.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1.0 FTE Secondary Special Education Teacher
Delivery of Specially Designed Instruction using a variety of instructional models.
Demonstrated knowledge of
IDEA, NYS
Part 200 regulations, and IEP development and implementation.
Understanding of various disabilities, teaching strategies, and behavioral management techniques.
Required progress monitoring and reporting per regulation requirements
Ongoing training and workshops to stay updated on best practices and legal requirements in special education.
REQUIRED NYS CERTIFICATIONS
NYS Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6 and NYS Students with Disabilities Certification 7-12 (or 5-9 extension) OR
Certification in Content Area 7-12 (Any content area-Science and Math preferred) OR NYS Students with Disabilities

September 1, 2026
SALARY:
Compensation as per District/AFA Collective Bargaining Agreement
