Job Description
ANTICIPATED
(2026-27 School Year)SECONDARY SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
The following position is posted in accordance with the negotiated agreement:POSITION
1.0 FTE - The Akron Central School District is seeking applicants for one (1) secondary special education teachers (Probationary Appointment)REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of New York State Learning Standards, resources and classroom management
- Understanding of various disabilities, teaching strategies, and behavioral management techniques.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to create a positive student-centered learning environment.
- Utilization of student assessments and data processes to identify programmatic needs, as well as target support for individual students.
- Collaborate with faculty and grade level teams to design, modify, and implement effective lesson (unit) plans following an ICT model.
- Knowledge of the principles and methods for instruction at the Secondary level.
- Demonstrate ability to design and implement lessons to meet the learning needs of students with varying levels of ability.
- Strong knowledge of IEP development and instructional best
- NYS fingerprint clearance and required professional development workshop completion.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- 1.0 FTE Secondary Special Education Teacher
- Delivery of Specially Designed Instruction using a variety of instructional models.
- Demonstrated knowledge of
IDEA, NYS
Part 200 regulations, and IEP development and implementation.- Understanding of various disabilities, teaching strategies, and behavioral management techniques.
- Required progress monitoring and reporting per regulation requirements
- Ongoing training and workshops to stay updated on best practices and legal requirements in special education.
REQUIRED NYS CERTIFICATIONS
NYS Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6 and NYS Students with Disabilities Certification 7-12 (or 5-9 extension) OR- Certification in Content Area 7-12 (Any content area-Science and Math preferred) OR NYS Students with Disabilities
