Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Elementary Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young learners with diverse needs. As an Elementary Special Education Teacher, your role in the classroom is to co-plan and co-deliver instruction. You'll be differentiating, instructing, and modifying the academic program for your students. We're looking for a dynamic educator who will: Collaboratively plan and support the implementation of instructional units aligned to the NYS Common Core Standards and the curriculum of the Renaissance Academy Charter School of the Arts. Use data from assessments to monitor student progress toward academic targets. Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment with high expectations that encourage student responsibility and create community. Collaborate with the classroom instructional team, which can include the teacher, an Arts Integration (AI) teacher, ENL teacher, etc. Address the individual needs of students. Coordinate, plan, meet, and co-teach with other teachers to meet program requirements of Renaissance Academy. Provide an inviting, exciting, and innovative learning environment. Work with students individually or in small groups, under supervision. Assist in classroom management. Use materials effectively and keep activities focused on objectives. Attend professional development training. Keep students on task. Prepare class materials. Work as a teammate and collaborator with the classroom teacher, teaching team, and instructional coaching staff. Make independent decisions when supervising students. Tutor and assist students individually or in small groups. Adapt to constantly changing needs. Communicate and work effectively with a diverse student population. You'll also: Inform, advocate, and comply with all Federal and State laws regarding students with disabilities. Use appropriate assessments to screen students in need of special education services and support. Plan and monitor the implementation of individualized educational programs (IEPs) for students with special learning needs. Provide individualized and small group instruction according to student IEPs. Analyze data from assessments of student work in collaboration with your teams to determine which teaching strategies to expand and which to replace with more effective ones. Know effective classroom management practices that motivate special education students.
Requirements:
Valid New York State Teaching Certificate in Students with Disabilities. Previous teaching experience in a public or private school, preferably in an urban setting, or experience working with groups of children and youth within your special skill area is preferred.Pay:
