Job Description

Overview:
Youth Enrichment Services is seeking a Prevention Teacher to provide evidence based substance use and violence prevention services.
Responsibilities:
Delivery of Direct Services Provide evidence based Substance Use prevention, Violence prevention and Gambling prevention programming to youth during the school day and during YES after school programs. Primary curricula currently being utilized are "Too Good for Drugs" and "Too Good for Violence." Develop and implement YES Prevention services, activities and strategies. Support programmatic initiatives within YES and the communities it serves. Work community events, health fairs, expos, etc., including evenings and weekends when necessary. Stays abreast of changes and best practices in substance abuse prevention and maintains written policies, protocols, and procedures that reflect these practices. Utilize considerable initiative in the selection and implementation of programs and strategies, presented through diverse media, aimed at increasing public awareness issues including, but not limited to, smoking, alcohol and substance abuse. Report Prevention activities in the WITNYS data collection system
Staffing Qualifications:
NYS Certified Teacher; or NYS Licensed Social Worker; or Bachelor's Degree in Education, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Behavioral Sciences, or related field, etc.; or Experience working in prevention, education, outreach and working with community agencies; or Experience working with diverse multicultural communities, training and public speaking; or Prevention professional who is licensed, certified or credentialed such as: Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP); Credentialed Prevention Specialist (CPS), Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), Credentialed Problem Gambling Counselor, Certified Health Educator, Certified School Counselor, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Registered Professional Nurse, Licensed Physician, Licensed Creative Arts Therapist and National Board Certified Counselor.
Experience:
Must have experience working in prevention, education, outreach and working with community development agencies. Working with diverse multicultural communities, training and public speaking.
Other:
Ability to travel locally is required. Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Functional computer skills in Microsoft Office- Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, etc. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus Will accept an equivalent combination of experience and education.
