Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Secondary Special Education Teacher Queensbury, New York (45 minutes North of Albany) Education Industry Position Position Overview Soliant Education is seeking a dedicated Secondary Special Education Teacher for a year-round contract assignment in Queensbury, NY for the 2026-2027 school year. This onsite opportunity supports students in a specialized private school setting that serves individuals with significant learning, behavioral, and communication needs. The contract is expected to begin in July 2026 and continue through June 2027, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and program needs. School Environment The school serves approximately 78 students across 10 self-contained classrooms with an 8:1:3 student-to-staff ratio. Students may include individuals with level 3 autism, severe cognitive disabilities, intensive behavioral needs, and alternative communication methods, with many students being non-verbal. Staff members work in a highly collaborative environment focused on individualized instruction, structured routines, and functional life skills development. Available Openings The school is currently hiring for two instructional levels within the special education program. The Secondary opening focuses on high school and adult-aged learners in a pre-vocational setting that emphasizes transition skills and independence. The Intermediate opening supports middle school students in a more academically focused classroom while still incorporating functional and vocational learning opportunities. Schedule and Contract Details This is a full-time onsite position with hours scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. While formal planning periods are not included in the daily schedule, approved work hours will total approximately 35 to 40 hours per week. Candidates hired for this role will receive weekly pay along with access to health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a 401(k) retirement plan through Soliant Education. Responsibilities The Special Education Teacher will provide individualized instruction in a self-contained classroom while supporting students with academic, behavioral, communication, and daily living goals. Responsibilities include modifying curriculum materials, implementing alternative assessments, collaborating with classroom support staff, and maintaining accurate student documentation. The teacher will also help create structured learning environments that encourage student engagement, social development, and functional independence. Qualifications Candidates must hold New York State certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities) or be actively working toward licensure. Applicants who recently completed a master's program or hold an out-of-state teaching license eligible for transfer are encouraged to apply. Bachelor's-level candidates will be considered, though a master's degree is strongly preferred. Experience supporting students with severe autism, challenging behaviors, medical needs, or alternative communication systems is highly valued. Preferred Experience The ideal candidate will have experience working with students who require individualized behavioral and instructional supports in highly structured settings. Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication methods, adaptive instruction, and curriculum modification is strongly preferred. Previous work with transition-age learners, vocational readiness programming, or alternative assessment models will be viewed favorably. Compensation Hourly pay ranges from $37.50 to $51.50 based on experience, certification status, educational background, and related qualifications.
