Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as a certified elementary special education teacher supporting a small group of students this summer. This half-day, morning role runs from July 9 through August 18 and is designed for a 3rd to 5th grade 12:1+1 program. Be the difference for students with academic and social communication needs in a supportive and collaborative school environment near Pittsford, NY. In this classroom, you'll work closely with a teaching assistant to foster student growth and engagement, ensuring all learners receive individualized instruction. CSE meetings are still determining final eligibility, but you can expect between 4 to 7 students this summer. The classroom is characterized by students who benefit from targeted academic and social support, with minimal behavioral interventions necessary.
Qualifications:
Current certification as a New York State Special Education Teacher (K-6 or equivalent) Previous experience with elementary special education, ideally in grades 3-5 Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation Knowledge of strategies for supporting social communication Collaborative mindset for partnering with a teaching assistant and other staff Flexibility and a compassionate, student-centered approach
Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver differentiated lessons tailored to students' IEP goals Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies for academic and social growth Create a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment Monitor progress and maintain accurate documentation Collaborate with teaching assistant and related services providers as needed Communicate regularly with families and CSE team to support student success Enjoy a meaningful summer assignment where your expertise will directly impact students' learning and social development—and where mornings are full of possibility!
