Special Education TeacherQualifications:
Credentials, as required by the State of Oklahoma Reports to: Site Principal and/or Assistant Principal and/or Director of Special ServicesPerformance Responsibilities:
- Creates an effective classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the developmental levels and interests of students within the limits of the resources of the district.
- Develops lesson plans and materials aligned to state standards and individual needs of each student.
- Provides instruction to students, appropriate to the educational program, in assigned locations and at assigned times.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, materials available and needs and capabilities of the child.
- Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Cooperates and consults with general education classroom teachers and other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives, modifications, and accommodations to be used with students in special education.
- Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and the parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of assigned students.
- Participates in evaluative process, eligibility, placement and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) team meetings.
- Abides by all district, state and federal laws, policies, and procedures, including timely completion of documentation.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil's progress and interpret the school program.
- Attends and participates in faculty meetings and professional development activities, and serves on committees as required.
- Maintains appropriate emotional stability, physical health, personal appearance and personality.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Terms of Employment:
Number of calendar days and compensation based on approved certified schedule and employee work calendarsEvaluation:
Evaluation by site principal and/or assistant principal in accordance with BOE Policy DNA Teacher EvaluationPhysical Demands:
- Ability to routinely and continually bend, squat, stand, walk, or climb stairs.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to do outside duties in inclement weather.
- Ability to support and stabilize students with physical disabilities.
