Job Description

Parent Mentor- Fathers Parent Mentors (Peer Support Specialists) at Family Nurturing Center work alongside parents currently involved with the Child Welfare system or struggling with substance use disorder to help connect them with resources, access services and instill HOPE! This open position will carry a caseload of all Father's.

Mon - Fri, 40 hours
TRAVEL:
Daily, and between counties
POSITION SUMMARY
The Parent Mentor Program provides peer mentoring and structured case management to fathers who are involved in the DHS-Child Welfare System. Parents in recovery are matched with a Parent Mentor who has faced and conquered similar challenges. Parent Mentors can work with parents throughout the length of their child welfare case providing on-going encouragement to support family reunification and child safety.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides intensive case management for up to 15 individuals involved in the child welfare system Accompanies parents to important meetings including court hearings, family decision meetings, and team decision meetings Assists parents with access to community resources, supporting them to advocate for themselves and their children Builds positive relationships with families, DHS child welfare system, and court system Guides parents through challenges of parenting in recovery Is an effective role model for fathers who are facing significant challenges Attends weekly LIFE staff meeting Attends program meetings in Portland, semi-annually Participates in various community forums representing the Parent Mentor Program Maintains accurate and timely documentation and enters data into required systems Demonstrates a cultural awareness sand sensitivity to the unique needs and conditions of children and families Participates in reflective supervision with supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Have successfully navigated the DHS child welfare system A closed child welfare case A minimum of two years of sobriety Active and engaged in recovery Valid Oregon and unrestricted driver's license, proof of auto insurance, and a safe driving record Reliable personal transportation Current Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (within 30 days of employment) Family Nurturing Center -

REQUIREMENTS
Compassion, understanding, and can demonstrate a respectful, open, unbiased, accepting attitude toward clients and their families Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information Ability to effectively handle crisis situations Can demonstrate taking initiative and presenting a positive attitude when faced with adversity Can demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills Can demonstrate sound judgment and creative problem-solving ability Can demonstrate the ability to work as a FNC team member, as well as with other community agencies Understands a strengths-based approach to working with children and families Effective written and verbal communication
PHSYICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to physically interact with children ages birth through five years, including bending, getting down and up off the floor, lifting up to 40 pounds, and managing sudden movements Sitting, standing, driving Vision and hearing within normal range (with or without corrections)
HAZARDS:
May come into contact with children who are ill and/or contagious Entering potentially unsafe, unstable, or unsanitary living conditions Driving in potentially hazardous weather or road conditions Family Nurturing Center -
