THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a committed and skilled Building Trade/Construction Occupation Trades Teacher (Construction Cluster/Building Trades) to join our vocational instruction team. In this impactful role, you will deliver hands-on training to inmate students at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Smithfield, equipping them with practical skills that support personal growth and long-term success. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will tailor curriculum materials to meet individual student needs based on screening and placement assessments. You will design and apply a range of instructional strategies to present content at an appropriate level, ensuring an effective learning experience for each student. You will deliver both classroom and hands-on shop instruction across various building and construction trades. Your responsibilities will include assigning and evaluating coursework, developing and administering tests and quizzes to measure student progress, and completing final evaluations for all enrolled students. In addition, you will maintain accurate inmate education records in compliance with DOC and facility policies and procedures. You will also track student attendance and manage the ordering of classroom supplies, materials, and equipment to support instruction. Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday

• Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical; or If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.

Special Requirements:

You must have possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical; or You must have possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical; or You must be eligible for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.

Other Requirements:
