Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Special Education teaching opportunities are available in Lancaster, PA, focused on supporting diverse learners across secondary and elementary levels. These contract positions offer a chance to work closely with students with cognitive and autism spectrum needs, alongside dedicated paraprofessionals and one-on-one staff.
Position Details:
Secondary/High School Life Skills:
Supports primarily 9th to 11th-grade students with cognitive needs. Approximately 10 learners, some full-time, others attending select classes. Low behavioral challenges expected, with support from paraprofessional and assigned 1:1 staff.
Schedule:
7:25 AM to 2:45 PM, five 70-minute blocks (four for academics, one prep period with additional time for interventions or clubs). Teacher lunch runs concurrently with student lunch (30 minutes, teacher does not attend). Secondary Autism Support -
Supplemental:
Serves higher functioning middle and high school learners with autism spectrum disorder (AS), between levels requiring full-time or learning support-only placements.
Projected enrollment:
5 middle school and 7 high school learners. Classroom includes two paraprofessionals and assigned 1:1 staff. Same schedule as life skills position, with 70-minute academic blocks split between ELA and Math at middle and high school levels.
Elementary Autism Support:
New position serving approximately 6 learners in grades 2-3 with a range of autism spectrum abilities. Learners may be verbal or use AAC devices, some with possible behavioral challenges. Classroom support includes Personal Care Assistants at a 1:2 ratio.
Hours:
8:15 AM to 3:45 PM, including 45 minutes prep and 30 minutes lunch.
Qualifications and Experience:
Valid teaching certification in Special Education. Experience working with students with cognitive and autism spectrum needs. Ability to collaborate with paraprofessionals and 1:1 staff. Strong classroom management and individualized instructional skills. These roles provide meaningful impact within supportive educational environments.
