Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a difference this summer by supporting students with diverse learning needs as a Special Education Teacher in an Extended School Year (ESY) program. This contract position runs from July 6th through August 6th, 2026, offering a unique opportunity to work weekday mornings and early afternoons—ideal for educators seeking a flexible seasonal role. You'll engage students from kindergarten through 12th grade, primarily those who are blind or visually impaired and some who may also have autism, behavioral, or other special needs.
What You'll Bring:
Current Pennsylvania Teacher Certification (emergency certificates not accepted) Demonstrated experience or a strong interest in supporting students with visual impairments highly preferred Background working with students with additional needs such as autism, behavioral disorders, and other disabilities Valid CPR/First Aid certification is preferred (training provided prior to start if needed) Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive educational environment
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver personalized instruction using appropriate accommodations and modifications Foster social and academic growth for students with blindness/visual impairments and additional needs Implement behavior management strategies tailored to each student Collaborate with paraprofessionals, therapists, and other educators Maintain thorough progress documentation and participate in team meetings Ensure a safe and supportive classroom environment This ESY role offers competitive hourly compensation, ranging from $37 to $52 per hour, reflecting your specialized skills and experience. You'll have four-day work weeks (Monday-Thursday, 8am-2:15pm) to enjoy a well-balanced summer schedule while making an impact on students who need it most.
