Immediately Job Description Job Overview The Academy of Global and Linguistic Studies (AGLS) Summer Bridge Program is a two-day, immersive experience designed to support the successful transition of incoming ninth-grade students from middle school to high school. The program will introduce students to the core pillars of
AGLS:
global studies, language learning, cultural competence, and inquiry-based thinking. Through collaborative challenges, guided exploration of the school environment, and engaging academic experiences, AGLS Scholars will build meaningful peer relationships, develop academic confidence, and begin to see themselves as members of this high-achieving, student-centered academy. The AGLS Summer Bridge Teacher plays a key role in creating a welcoming, engaging, and supportive environment for rising ninth graders. This educator will design and lead mini-lessons that integrate foundational academic skills, like close reading, writing, and inquiry, into hands-on, collaborative activities. Working closely with co-facilitators and additional staff, the AGLS Summer Bridge Teacher will help model academy expectations while fostering curiosity, confidence, and a sense of belonging among students. Roles and Responsibilities The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate. Design and facilitate engaging, inquiry-based mini-lessons aligned with AGLS themes, including global awareness, cultural competence, and interdisciplinary thinking. Guide students through interactive challenges that build teamwork, problem-solving skills, and foster peer-connections. Encourage student participation and enthusiasm through structured and unstructured learning experiences. Integrate global learning concepts where appropriate to connect students with their future coursework. Create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that supports all students. Assist with setup and cleanup of the event space before and after each session. Accompany and supervise students during off-site field trip activities. Qualifications Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable. Education Bachelor's degree from accredited university or college. Experience Experience as a middle school or high school classroom teacher. Experience in global learning curriculum or teaching in a global studies-related program preferred. Experience in student engagement or leadership activities is preferred. Licenses and Certifications Holds or eligible for a Virginia teaching license required, with an endorsement in Social Studies, Mandarin Chinese, or Arabic preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of global studies curriculum and ability to make relevant connections for students. Ability to create an engaging and supportive learning environment. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students and foster a sense of community. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
