6/17/2026 SUMMARY Responsible for the direct supervision of all teachers as signed. Performed a wide variety of duties relating to the needs of children and adolescents.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Consistently applies the corporate values of respect, honesty, and fairness and the constant pursuit of excellence in improving the health status of the people of the region through the provision of customer-friendly, geographically-accessible, and high-value services within the environment of a comprehensive integrated academic health system. Is available to supervise and directs all teachers in assigned areas on a regular basis. Communicates on a daily basis with all teachers in his/her assigned area. Responds to all requests for direction within one working day of said request with 95% frequency. Serves as liaison between teaching staff and special clinical services administrative staff. Acts in a professional, dependable, and punctual manner. Reports to work on time prepared for daily work assignments. Plans in advance for special days off; does not abuse use of time. Gives adequate notice for all scheduled leave time. Gives adequate notice to supervisory personnel when calling in sick or late, according to hospital and department policy and procedure. Conducts self in dress and behavior in a professional manner. Assists in the discharge process for all assigned patients. Ensures that the child's local school system has been informed regarding data or discharge and academic recommendations, when requested. Functions as an effective member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. Maintains positive working relationships with team members. Consults with other clinical staff regarding patients. Assists other teachers in interpreting evaluation findings. Functions as an active member of the Special Clinical Services Department. Participates actively in department staff meetings. Attends at least 80% of department meetings. Accepts and performs delegated responsibilities on department committees. Suggests improvements in department functions as it relates to the educational services hospital-wide. Shares expertise and provides support to other educational staff members. Participates actively in Total Quality Management. Performs a variety of other related duties requested by the department or the hospital, and complies with all local, state, and federal laws and requirements. Observes all relevant Quality Improvement, Quality Assurance, Risk Management, and Infection Control policies and procedures. Observes all general policies, rules, and regulations.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. Bachelor's degree in special education; certification from the Rhode Island Department of Education (to include levels of handicapped certification appropriate to the hospital's population).
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of three years teaching experience.
INDEPENDENT ACTION
Performs independently within department policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.
