  • Collaborates and effectively communicates with all members of the learning community to ensure the highest level of effective reading instruction.
  • Diagnoses reading deficits.
  • Develops and implements effective interventions which will result in closing the achievement gap in reading.
  • Provides support and guidance to classroom teachers in strategic reading strategies and interventions for struggling readers. Such support includes, but is not limited to, consultation, modeling and critical feedback to classroom teachers.
  • Provides leadership in utilizing data to improve reading instruction and student learning.
  • Initiates a collaborative effort with the classroom teacher in the development, implementation and monitoring of the personal literacy plans for students not meeting the district benchmarks.
  • Supports the classroom teacher in selecting differentiated materials and texts throughout the content areas to ensure the student is consistently reading at his/her appropriate level throughout the day. Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the Wonders Curriculum and methodologies (ie: readers' workshop, interactive read aloud) and the ability to assist teachers in developing interventions within the Teachers College framework of balanced literacy.
  • Knowledge of current assessment tools to identify students' needs and develop appropriate responses.
  • Skills to collect, analyze and manipulate data to inform decision making.
  • Ability to foster a "love of learning and of reading" while engaging all members of the learning community in developing the requisite skills to be a lifelong reader and learner.
  • Knowledge of the MTSS process.
  • Outstanding collaboration and communication skills.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Enthusiasm, self- initiative, and professionalism.
