Position:
Teacher Assigned "A" Upper Elementary School Computer Science Implementation Specialist (For Internal Candidates Only) (One Year Position)
Location:
Division of the First Deputy Chancellor Office of Student Pathways, Itinerant, serving multiple schools
Eligibility Requirements:
Licensed, appointed and tenured full-time New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) Teacher Assigned with a minimum of three (3) years of Satisfactory ("S") or advance equivalent performance ratings, along with an exemplary record of attendance and punctuality.
Selection Criteria:
Experience delivering computer science education to students in grades 3-5. Demonstrated knowledge of New York State Computer Science and Digital Fluency standards. Demonstrated ability to integrate computer science standards, skills, and concepts into core subject areas. Willingness to travel to deliver professional learning (PL) opportunities at various locations. Demonstrated ability to plan, design, deliver, and evaluate PL opportunities. Highly organized, with the ability to work under pressure and meet frequent and sometimes changing deadlines. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail. Demonstrated commitment to high standards of personal excellence, with the ability to learn quickly, adapt, and respond constructively to feedback. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with education personnel internal and external to NYCPS.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Plan, design, and facilitate professional learning opportunities for teachers in grades 3-5 aligned to the New York State Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards, Plan and design computer science learning activities for students, families and school communities. Develop and update computer science lessons aligned to the New York State Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards for implementation as standalone units or integrated into existing curricula. Evaluate computer science curriculum for quality and rigor. Manage communication among school staff, district leaders, and the Computer Science and 21st Century Skills team to support program implementation. Design instructional materials, including pacing guides, professional development (PD) activities, workbooks, and assessments. Collaborate with teams and departments within the Office of Student Pathways and across NYCPS. Attend and participate in team and departmental meetings.
Hours:
As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement 9:00AM - 5:00PM Monday through Friday School Year (September 10, 2026, through June 28, 2027) plus five additional days during the winter, spring, or summer recess, pursuant to UFT contract, as mutually agreed upon with supervisor. The hours of service of a teacher-assigned shall be thirty-seven and one-half (37.5) hours per week, exclusive of a daily thirty-minute lunch period. Flexibility for an earlier start or later finish to the workday may be permitted, subject to supervisor approval. Teacher-Assigned may apply for and, if selected, work up to 30 per session days during the summer vacation period, beginning July 2026.
