Primary Purpose:
To facilitate an aligned and articulated instructional program for self-contained special education students and expertise in curriculum design and delivery, staff development, instructional resource selection and teaching models, for grades preK-12+.
Qualifications:
Master's Degree preferred. Valid Texas teaching certification 3 years of teaching experience Strong communication and interpersonal skills Knowledge of curriculum, design, and implementation Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness. Ability to interpret data. Familiarity with writing standards-based IEPs, BIPs, and the ARD process Strong organizational and time management skills A comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of special education laws/procedures, curriculum, and instructional technology, Demonstrated knowledge of aligning TEKS with pre-requisite skills, implementation of behavior plans, communication systems and functional/independent skills.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
To assist all special education students in achieving high levels of academic, functional and independent skills. Identify training needs in special education. Provide classroom assistance with implementation of BIPs, communication systems and other instructional tools necessary for students to achieve independence. Provide sustained mentoring and coaching to classroom teachers and staff. Assist in transition planning for students. Coordinate with campus staff to facilitate use of staff and scheduling. To assist campuses in building their capacity to establish, implement, and sustain special education services and programs on their campus. To promote parental and community participation in special education programs. To streamline general and special education programs that help special education students develop and meet the challenging state academic content and student academic achievement standards. To provide supplemental high quality professional development to teachers, principals, administrators, and other school or community-based organizational personnel To improve instructional programming by identifying, acquiring, and upgrading curricula, instructional materials, educational software, and assessment procedures. To coordinate with campuses supplemental intensified/accelerated instruction for special education students. To support the implementation of specially designed instruction in educational settings. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by TEA, board policies, and administrative regulations. Integrate educational technology into the curricula and educational program to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Advise general education teachers on accommodations special education students. Assess needs and order supplemental materials. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Participate in the district staff development programs. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and Executive Director of Student Services.
SHARS/ MAC / RMTS
Northwest ISD participates in the School Health and Related Services (SHARS) and MAC programs which allows our district to request Medicaid reimbursement for certain health-related services. The Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee determines SHARS services. As a special education staff member, you will be required to train and bill for SHARS reimbursements for students on your caseload. Trainings will be provided for SHARS, for RMTS (Random Moment in Time Studies), where staff are chosen randomly to answer a few questions, and for MAC (Diagnosticians and non-Personal Care Providers only). Training will be provided at the beginning of each school year as well as on an "as needed" basis for new hires.

Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Position requires frequent bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, overhead reaching, sitting, and keyboarding. Position requires the ability to lift 25 pounds to waist high.
