Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE
The teacher is responsible for contributing to the educational system as a unit and to the growth of each student. The teacher shall assist each student to develop skills and to realize his/her potential
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree from accredited university. The teacher shall have at least a valid Texas Teacher Certification with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned. Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
MAJOR RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES
The teacher shall: 1. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy. 2. Develop and implement long and short-range plans for the instructional program. 3. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences. 4. Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and skills in the subject area taught. 5. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by TEA, Board policies, and administrative regulations. 6. Comply with UIL rules and maintain appropriate records. 7. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved. 8. Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study. 9. Test students, record grades, and send progress reports to parents/guardians, or as required. 10. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis. 11. Develop and maintain an environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the District. 12. Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. 13. Demonstrate regular communications with students to encourage active participation in the learning process. 14. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents. 15. Establish control in the classrooms and administer discipline and punishment in accordance with Board policies and administrative regulations. 16. Maintain accurate, complete records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations. 17. Assist in the selection of instructional materials and equipment in the areas assigned. 18. Be responsible for receiving and maintaining textbooks, study materials, teaching supplies, and classroom equipment, and other supplies as provided by the District; keep a current inventory of all items and provide the inventory upon request. 19. Be responsible for submitting bus requisitions two weeks prior to out-of-town trips. 20. Attend and participate in faculty meetings. 21. Participate in the in-service education program. 22. Sponsor any outside activities approved by the school and accept responsibility for extra-curricular activities as assigned. 23. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, and parents. 24. Work to maintain and improve professional competence. 25. Perform other duties as assigned by the proper authority.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; moderate lifting and carrying. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities.
