Position Type:
Part-Time / Full-Time (Based on Family Needs) Job Summary We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and energetic Behavior Tech Caregiver to provide companionship and supportive care for a 22-year-old young adult with special needs in Sugar Land, Texas. He is a polite, well-mannered, intelligent, and independent young man who attends specialized educational and developmental programs and enjoys walking, community activities, and learning opportunities. This position focuses primarily on companionship, supervision, social engagement, and behavioral support rather than personal care. The ideal caregiver will help promote independence, confidence, community participation, and continued development of life skills while providing a safe and positive environment. Responsibilities Provide companionship, emotional support, and positive social interaction. Encourage participation in community outings, walks, recreational activities, and developmental programs. Support daily routines and promote independence in age-appropriate activities. Assist with behavioral support strategies as directed by the family or care team. Observe, document, and report behavioral patterns, progress, and notable events. Encourage communication, problem-solving, and social skill development. Provide transportation assistance when authorized and appropriate. Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment at all times. Communicate regularly with family members regarding activities, progress, and concerns. Maintain accurate documentation while adhering to HIPAA and confidentiality requirements. Support educational and life-skills activities using individualized approaches tailored to the client's strengths and goals. Personal Care Requirements The client is largely independent and does not require assistance with feeding, dressing, grooming, bathing, or toileting . Caregiver support in these areas is generally not needed, except for occasional supervision or encouragement when requested by the family. Qualifications Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, or special needs preferred. Experience as a caregiver, behavior technician, direct support professional (DSP), paraprofessional, or special education aide is a plus. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Patient, dependable, energetic, and positive attitude. Ability to work independently and follow individualized care plans. Ability to maintain professional boundaries while building a trusting relationship. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred. Ability to pass a background check and reference verification. Preferred Skills Knowledge of behavior support techniques and positive reinforcement strategies. Experience with community integration and life-skills coaching. Familiarity with documentation and progress reporting. CPR/First Aid Certification (preferred). Physical Requirements Ability to accompany the client during community outings and walks. Ability to assist with light supervision and recreational activities. Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
