Required Education, Licenses, Certifications, and Experience:
1. High School Diploma or GED 2. Background check clearance is required 3. Certification in CPR and First Aid for children and infants 4. All teachers must complete Ministry Safe training as mandated by the church 5. Active membership within the church community and a solid understanding of our mission, values, and theology 6. Valid Texas Driver's License 7. Valid personal auto liability insurance 8. Access to dependable transportation for commuting to and from work Work authorization/security clearance required: Must be eligible to work in the United States. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1. Understanding of early childhood development, particularly the toddler age group 2. Familiarity with age-appropriate learning activities, play-based instruction, and positive behavior strategies 3. Awareness of health, hygiene, and safety practices in a childcare setting 4. Basic knowledge of First Methodist Waco's mission, values, and faith-based approach to early education 5. Knowledge of child protection and abuse prevention best practices, including Ministry Safe standards 6. Strong communication skills with children, parents, and team members 7. Ability to maintain a calm, patient, and nurturing demeanor in a fast-paced environment 8. Organizational skills for managing daily routines, classroom materials, and individual child needs 9. Basic conflict resolution and redirection techniques appropriate for toddlers 10. Teamwork and collaboration skills to support co-teachers and staff in a shared learning environment 11. Ability to lift, carry, and attend to young children throughout the day 12. Ability to implement daily routines, monitor group and individual activities, and maintain a structured classroom setting 13. Ability to adapt activities to meet the needs of children at varying developmental stages 14. Ability to model Christian values through actions, communication, and classroom interactions 15. Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency or safety situations
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Plans and implements daily routines and age-appropriate activities that support physical, emotional, social, and spiritual growth. 2. Supervises and engages with children at all times, ensuring their safety and well-being through active monitoring and positive guidance. 3. Assists children with basic needs including diapering, toilet training, feeding, dressing, and hygiene in accordance with health and safety standards. 4. Creates a welcoming and structured classroom environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and learning through play. 5. Maintains open and respectful communication with parents and caregivers, providing updates on daily activities, behavior, and developmental milestones. 6. Works collaboratively with co-teachers, staff, and leadership to support classroom management and curriculum goals. 7. Maintains a clean and organized classroom, including regular sanitization of toys, materials, and surfaces. 8. Attends required staff meetings, trainings (including Ministry Safe), and professional development opportunities. 9. Upholds and models Christian values in all classroom interactions, fostering a loving and Christ-centered atmosphere for children and families. 10. Physical and Mental Requirements and Abilities The role of a Kids' Kastle Teacher often requires working effectively in a moderate to fast-paced environment. This environment typically involves frequent activities, interactions, and tasks that must be completed within specified timeframes. Additionally, interruptions and unexpected events may occur, requiring flexibility and adaptability while maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor. The physical demands described here represent those that the Kids' Kastle Teacher must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. The employee frequently sits and/or stands. The employee may occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift, and/or move up to 45 pounds. Employees will constantly use their fingers, hands, wrists, elbows, and upper extremities. Employees may occasionally have to twist, pull, or stretch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust the focus with and or without using prescribed or over-the-counter optical glasses, contact lenses, or other visual aids. The Kids' Kastle Teacher may be exposed to various (fair to extreme) weather conditions.
