The City of Chesapeake is seeking a dedicated Child Care Specialist I to provide family-focused services to income-eligible families. In this role, you will empower parents with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to make informed child care decisions while ensuring the safety and well-being of their children. Key Responsibilities Conduct interviews to determine and re-determine financial and non-financial eligibility for child care services. Complete strength-based assessments and develop individualized service plans that support families' goals toward economic independence. Provide consumer education on quality child care indicators, licensing requirements, and monitoring tools for evaluating child care providers. Assist families with navigating available tools to access provider inspection reports and improve provider-parent communication. Prepare and manage service authorizations, negotiate vendor fees, and confirm provider availability. Maintain accurate case records and documentation in the Virginia Case Management System (VaCMS); generate reports as needed. Conduct child care provider visits to build partnerships, ensure policy compliance, and connect providers with resources to enhance quality of care. Represent the department in internal and external workgroups, meetings, and collaborative initiatives. Perform general administrative tasks including data entry, correspondence, filing, and customer communication. What We're Looking for A strong commitment to serving families and children. VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in early childhood development, business, psychology, sociology, accounting, or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standard, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.

Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with the.
