Exempt 2026-27 Salary Scales Summary To provide engaging instruction and hands-on learning experiences with topics such as human anatomy, physiology, nutrition, injuries and illnesses, and legal and ethical issues in sports medicine. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Reliable attendance and prompt arrival time; Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school; Lectures, demonstrates, and uses audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter to class; Supervises student conduct to ensure that labs/classrooms provide an orderly, safe and disciplined environment conducive to productivity. Prepares, administers, and corrects tests, and records results; Assigns lessons, corrects papers, and hears oral presentations; Maintains order in classroom; Maintains a safe environment for students at all times; Counsels students when adjustment and academic problems arise; Discusses students' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents; Keeps attendance and grade records as required by school and division; Works cooperatively with the total staff; Assumes responsibility for the care of materials, equipment, and facilities; Plan, deliver, and assess quality learning experiences Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and instructional needs. Adhere to policies and regulations as outlined in federal and state laws and School Board Policies and Procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Sports Medicine Endorsement and Certified Athletic Trainer License preferred. Experience in incident management, basic emergency care of injuries, process for assessment and evaluation of injury, therapeutic intervention, reducing risk, and athlete wellness. Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively through written or verbal methods with parents, students, teachers, administrators and the school community. Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year accredited college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must hold or be eligible to hold a valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Sports Medicine Prior teaching experience at the secondary level is preferred. Experience or additional endorsements in the area of Athletic Training preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid certification to meet State requirements with specific endorsement in the area to which assigned. Applicant who has had teaching experience must have an acceptable rating for such teaching. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
