Jul 29, 2026 Job Description The Interim Teacher position is an innovative and exciting role for aspiring teachers to gain hands-on experience while in pursuit of their licensure. Interim Teachers fulfill all regular duties of a licensed teacher and participate in new teacher professional development activities while being supported by a seasoned SCPS mentor teacher who will encourage their growth and acclimation into the role. This role is ideal for Paraeducators who are looking to take the next step in their career, aspiring Education professionals on the path to licensure or career-switchers who are interested in learning more about the Teaching industry!
Essential Functions:
Prepares and meets students for instruction in designated times and locations. Designs coherent instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, current instructional practices, students, the community, and curriculum goals. Plans instruction to achieve desired objectives that reflect the Virginia Standards of Learning and division curriculum guidelines; creates instructional materials that align with state standards and meets the needs of all learners. Creates and leverages a variety of assessment strategies and instruments to make both short-term and long-range instructional decisions to improve student learning; administers formal assessments both at the state level and the county level in accordance with established procedures;documents student learning gains using appropriate assessment instruments; tracks student learning to show gains. Identifies and communicates specific student performance expectations; evaluates students' progress; provides students with prompt specific evaluative feedback, maintains appropriate records and prepares progress reports. Leverages appropriate materials, technology, and resources in a manner that promotes the development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills. Implements a classroom management policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff; ensures the adequate and safe supervision of students and manages classroom procedures to maximize academic learning time. Takes responsibility for and participates in a meaningful and continuous process of professional development; maintains licensure at the state and/or national level; assumes responsibility for professional growth and keeps materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date. Education and Experience:
Required Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university -OR- 60 course credits and currently enrolled in a teaching program One (1) year of experience working with children, ideally within a teaching, leadership or mentorship role Actively enrolled in the coursework required to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board Preferred Prior work experience within a public school system, ideally Spotsylvania County Public Schools

Employment Terms:
Employment may be offered as a 10-Month (200 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually.
