POSITION SUMMARY:
This position, in collaboration with other stakeholders, develops and implements a rigorous instructional family and consumer sciences program and provides related educational services for students. • The additional ten days of the contract are for maintaining, ordering, and inventorying an active FACS lab. This also compensates for weekend work throughout the year, as well as summer or weekend work that is required to complete the lab maintenance tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS
Possesses or qualifies for a Virginia Collegiate Professional license with specific endorsement in the area to which assigned (Family and Consumer Sciences). Possesses outstanding knowledge and skill in the assigned instructional area and demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and the learning process. Demonstrates knowledge of instructional strategies and skills related to scientifically-based research and its implementation. Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Experience working with diverse learning needs and with children that may benefit from alternative learning models is preferred. Familiarity with racial equity and inclusion frameworks. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Respects the worth, dignity and individual differences of others. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities to foster professional relationships and express and/or exchange ideas. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments to improve instructional practices. Views feedback and self reflection as a tool to improve and grow teaching responsibilities. Proficiency in the use of a variety of office equipment and technology with experience using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, email, and information system applications. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Knowledge of at least one family and consumer sciences-related disciplinary topic (e.g. nutrition and wellness, textiles, early childhood, etc.) to facilitate project-based classes. Building a classroom culture in which students learn family and consumer sciences areas/topics through project-based, hands-on, and experiential means. Support students in after school activities related to family and consumer sciences (such as FCCLA) Interest in developing strong relationships with local businesses for student career exploration opportunities. Prepare students for college and career by developing their skills/competencies according to a state-approved list in each course. Design engaging lessons that are based on course competencies and inspire students to do their best work in an inquiring-based or project-based instructional framework. Provide a safe and positive environment focused on student learning. Perform administrative responsibilities including managing equipment and inventory used for instruction, keeping records of student competencies, assigning grades, and participating in school and district collaborative teams. Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date. Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment. Responds to telephone, email and in-person requests, inquiries and questions in a professional, polite and responsive manner. Serves as a role model by developing and effectively maintaining professional boundaries with students and staff at all times. Ensures respect for the ethical and legal duties in the staff-to-student and administrator-to-staff relationships. Serves as a role model for others, as an educational leader, by demonstrating good attendance, punctuality, appearance, demeanor, dress and behavior. Actively participates in and attends all required meetings. Maintains confidentiality in all matters. Models professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions, including non-discriminatory and cultural inclusion practices by respecting the worth, dignity and individual beliefs of others. Is familiar with and abides by School Board policies, regulations, and school procedures. Effectively performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students, staff, and community members. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; and subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members is required. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
