Jul 1, 2026 Job Description Position Open Until Filled Current employees of King George County Schools who are interested in applying for this position, in lieu of completing this application, should submit a letter of interest and current resume to Dr. Kathleen Howard, Supervisor of Special Services.
Qualifications:
At least 3 years experience in a school setting Experience working with students with disabilities and/or 504 processes Working knowledge of the Children's Services Act Education Minimum- Bachelor's Degree Certifications-VA Teaching Certificate with endorsement in special education
Required:
Working knowledge of special education private day and residential placements and Americans with Disabilities Act.
Responsibilities:
Case manage all private and residential students with disabilities K-12. Conducts all IEP and eligibility meetings in conjunction with private placements. Monitors caseload student progress towards achieving instructional objectives and goals in the IEPs. Develops Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in accordance with federal and state guidelines. Maintain files within the base schools of all outplaced students Attend transition meetings for students moving between public school settings and private day/residential settings. Secures placement once private day setting has been agreed upon by the IEP team. Prepares required paperwork and attends FAPT meetings monthly (including summer months). Complete CANS assessments required for Special Education outplaced students Conduct monthly site visits of private day school students. Maintain communication with families and the private day schools. Arrange for transportation for outplaced students. Meets weekly with the team regarding any upcoming students who may be transitioning between placements. Collaborates with school registrars and private placements to ensure grades and transcripts are updated annually. Sends monthly attendance to school registrars. Monitors student progress towards graduation. Provides professional development relevant to assignment. Additional duties as assigned within the Department of Special Services. 2026-2027
