Title:
Gifted Resource Teacher (TAG) Reports to: Principal
Primary Responsibilities:
The primary functions of the gifted resource teacher are to assist the instructional staff in each school in implementing the school board's approved gifted education program; to establish procedures for referrals and selection of students for program services; to provide training for classroom teachers who are responsible for gifted instruction; and provide direct instruction to students.
Qualifications:
Hold a Postgraduate Professional Certificate, have been awarded a master's degree or is enrolled in a master's degree program with a major in gifted education. Endorsements may be held in any educational field. A minimum of three years successful classroom teaching experience is required. Present acceptable recommendations from previous employers or from professional training references. Must have demonstrated success in working with gifted students.
Performance Responsibilities:
To standardize the identification, selection and placement procedures of gifted students. To implement a student matrix of multiple criteria for student selection. To test individual students for placement into the gifted program. To define the role of and organize school placement committees. To provide in service activities for classroom teachers, administrators, and parents on gifted topics, such as; characteristics of gifted children, identification/selection/placement process, curriculum development, instructional strategies, learner evaluation and demonstration teaching. To select and utilize local resources in the preparation of a sequential, developmental, differentiated gifted curriculum. To assist in developing and maintaining proper student records. To assist in developing the annual Plan for Gifted Education. To assist with TAG Parent Advisory Council Meetings. To assist in the preparation of an inventory of instructional materials and equipment for gifted activities housed in each school. To assist in the annual assessment and evaluation of the gifted education program. To adhere to the regulations of the Virginia Plan for Gifted Education. To perform other such duties or responsibilities as may be delegated by the principal. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus. Salary and work year to be established by the Board. Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of administrative personnel.
