Aug 13, 2026 Job Description Opening for a full-time, special education teacher for the alternative, special education classroom located within the Winooski High School.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must hold Vermont License as Special Education Teacher at the high school level. Additional content area endorsements are a plus especially in the area of ELA, English and/or Health. Experience working with students who are multilingual (ML) would be a plus. Summary of Position Responsibilities - Seeking a Special Educator to teach students with emotional disabilities in our high school alternative classroom. This program provides emotional, behavioral, and academic support to students grades 9-12. Training in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or other therapeutic responses are a plus. Responsibilities include: Provide academic instruction to students in reading, writing and mathematics. Provide instruction to students in the areas of emotional regulation & social skills. Ability to develop, implement and train staff with behavior & crisis plans and programs for specific students. Ability to collaborate with teachers and staff with plan development and implementation. Model effective behavior management strategies to students and staff. Keep detailed data on student progress. Regular ongoing collaboration with clinical team, classroom teachers and outside providers. Development of strong transition plans. Completing IEPs according to state and federal guidelines. Support the District Evaluator by attending eligibility meetings for special education eligibility in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations, policies, procedures, and laws. Participating in effective periodic meetings for assigned students. Soliciting and/or receiving regular feedback, such as progress reports, incident reports, outside assessments, and data Effectively integrates information and makes recommendations for the IEP team. Completing IEP progress reports & report cards. Ensuring students are educated in the Least Restrictive Environment and developing programming that meets individual student needs. Maintaining accurate, timely records, logs, evaluations, plans, data collection and other documentation. Supervision & training of classroom assistants.
