Job Description

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. Step into a rewarding contract opportunity focused on empowering young learners with visual impairments for the 2026-2027 school year. In this role, you will support elementary-aged students by transcribing and producing braille and tactile educational materials within a dynamic school-based environment. Work on-site near Gig Harbor, WA, during student in-person days (up to 20 hours per week; schedule to be determined).
Key Qualifications:
Proficiency in Unified English Braille code, demonstrated by passing one of the following: WSSB Braille Competency Test, NBPCB Unified English Braille exam, or holding a Library of Congress certificate in literary braille transcribing (WAC 181-82-130) Experience producing braille and tactile materials for educational use Previous experience in a school-based setting is highly desirable Current and valid Washington State Driver's License or evidence of reliable mobility Successful completion of fingerprints, WSP and FBI background checks, and sexual misconduct clearance Strong organizational abilities and collaborative spirit
Role Responsibilities:
Transcribe classroom materials into braille and tactile formats for elementary caseload, ensuring timely and accurate delivery Collaborate closely with students, educators, and other specialists to adapt and produce individualized instructional materials Assist in the use of braille technology and tools to enhance student access to curriculum Support teachers and staff by providing insight into best practices for braille and tactile resources Maintain confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of professionalism throughout your interactions This flexible, part-time position lets you make a significant impact while balancing your other commitments.
