Job Description

The individual in the Youth Care Specialist role is responsible for the day-to-day supervision for youth residents of the Shelter. The Youth Care Specialist assist with record keeping and specific functions and duties necessary for the overall care and well-being of children in the residence. Typical Work Assists in the continued implementation of the organization's structured environment to help reinforce appropriate behaviors through the context of community life and responsibilities; Assumes responsibility for the direct supervision of children place in the youth shelter; Follow the program rules, schedule, instructions and assignments outlined; Work with other youth care workers and staff to listen and meet the needs of the children; Provides trauma informed care, supportive mentorship and appropriate role modeling; Maintains and dispenses appropriate medications according to licensing requirements; Understands and follows the organization's policies, procedures and licensing requirements; Escorts youth to designated activities; Ensure a safe environment for fellow employees and residents; Complete all required written reports, notes and logs are completed in a timely manner; Participates in crisis intervention services with youth residents; Inputs resident data into the organization's HMIS; Complies with HIPAA and 42 CFR requirements; Collaborates with the residents care team to provide effective treatment; Conducts other duties as assigned. Qualifications Holds a high school diploma, GED, HSEC or equivalent; Be at least 21 years of age; Have skills and ability to assist with the needs of children and youth in care; Has at least six month of similar, full-time experience working directly with vulnerable populations or be attending classes at an accredited college or university related to caring for vulnerable populations; Ability to work on-site and be readily available to assist when needed; Maintains training, experience, knowledge and demonstrates skills in each area where supervision is provided; Knowledgeable in HIPAA and 42 CFR; Must maintain all certifications necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position; Strong communication, organization, documentation and record keeping skills; Ability to work with various computer software programs, including an electronic health record system; Possess and maintain a valid driver's license; Must pass and maintain a clear background records; Must be able to life up to 25 pounds at a time; Must be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
