SPECIAL EDUCATION FLOATER TEACHER

OEA PURPOSE
STATEMENT
Provide consistent, high-quality instructional and behavioral support across special education programs by serving as a dedicated substitute teacher. This position ensures continuity of services for students with disabilities by implementing IEPs, maintaining structured learning environments, and supporting student success in the absence of the assigned teacher.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Implement instructional plans and IEP services in the absence of the assigned special education teacher across settings (resource, self-contained, and life skills). Deliver specially designed instruction (SDI) aligned with IEP goals, district curriculum, and state standards. Maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment to support student behavior, engagement, and success. Utilize effective behavior management strategies, including de-escalation and CPI techniques as needed. Follow established classroom routines, behavior plans, and intervention strategies to ensure consistency for students. Support students with diverse needs, including communication, academic, behavioral, and adaptive skill development. Collaborate with paraeducators to maintain consistency in instruction, supervision, and implementation of student supports. Monitor student participation and engagement and communicate relevant information to the assigned teacher and administration. Provide supervision and ensure safety of students, including during transitions, lunch, and other structured/unstructured times. Support implementation of related services and accommodations as outlined in student IEPs. Maintain confidentiality of student information and adhere to all district, state, and federal regulations. Adapt quickly to different classroom environments, student needs, and program structures across buildings. Assist in maintaining continuity of services to support compliance with IEP implementation and FAPE requirements. Fulfill other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to effectively support students with a wide range of disabilities, including significant developmental delays and behavioral needs. Knowledge of special education practices, including IEP implementation, SDI, and behavior supports. Strong classroom management and ability to maintain structured environments. Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, including teachers, paraeducators, related service providers, and administrators. Flexibility and adaptability to work across multiple settings and grade levels. Ability to quickly build rapport with students to maintain consistency and engagement. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to operate instructional technology and learning platforms. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree with appropriate endorsement, Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate, Master's degree, or Doctorate from an accredited university or college.
EXPERIENCE
Appropriate academic background and coursework for the position. Successful teaching experience and effective work with school age students, preferred.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsements. Valid WA State driver's license and appropriate insurance required. Must maintain as current any certification or license listed herein and held at hire date.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift, move, and assist students as needed (up to 50-75 pounds depending on assignment). Physical ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, crawl, lift, reach, pull and climb as required to satisfactory perform required duties. Ability to focus (adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus), clear vision at twenty(20) inches or less, and clear vision at twenty (20) feet or more. Must be able to work safely varying hot and cold (weather) environments. Frequent standing, walking, lifting and bending.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Starting Date:
2026-2027 School Year (182 total contracted days)
Salary:
$63,912•$122,620 annual salary. Based on education and experience, Per OEA CBA•2026-2027
Salary Schedule Retirement:
Pension through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems
