Job Description
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. This contract position offers an opportunity to work as a Braillist/Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) supporting students with vision impairments. Based in Redmond, WA, this role provides full-time to part-time hours (0.5 to 1.0 FTE), with shifts up to 37.5 hours per week excluding a 30-minute unpaid meal break for shifts over five hours. Employment extends through June 21, 2024, aligned with the district calendar, and requires in-person work at various district locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Transcribe educational materials such as books, workbooks, test materials, tactile maps, and graphs into braille, large print, or electronic formats for students with visual impairments. Collaborate with the Teacher of Students with Vision Impairments (TSVI) to adapt materials as needed. Maintain detailed records and properly labeled electronic files of all transcriptions for future use. Manage time efficiently to ensure materials are prepared and available when needed. Stay current with braille production technologies and assistive technology relevant to students' needs. Order and manage inventory of materials and supplies. Maintain a resource file for locating alternative sources of braille, large print, or electronic materials. Apply correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.Qualifications:
Valid Washington State teaching license and certification in Visual Impairment. Fingerprints on file with OSPI before the start date. Willingness to work onsite at district campuses. Ability to learn and demonstrate proficiency in braille transcription.
