Professional Learning Stipend :

Special Education Day:
Join your special education colleagues prior to the start of the year to review updates, receive caseloads and plan with your teams (per diem•one (1) day) IEP Caseload and Class size

Para Educator assigned to classroom, in addition to any student-assigned paraeducator support. Are you passionate about creating learning environments where all students feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow? Steilacoom High School is looking for a dedicated and student-centered Special Education teacher to join our team ! In this role, you will become part of an exceptional staff dedicated to helping students grow into joyful and confident learners. This assignment primarily a small group of students, typically with autism, in a highly structured classroom. This position focuses on meeting each student's unique learning needs, including academics, communication, self-management, and daily living skills. The classroom uses evidence-based to create a predictable, supportive, and individualized learning environment. Strong collaboration with general education teachers and support staff is essential to ensuring student growth and success across settings. Our district is located a 20 minute drive south of Tacoma, and serves just over 3,000 students across six schools, including a remote PreK-3 elementary school on Anderson Island and five mainland schools: Cherrydale Primary School (PreK-3) Chloe Clark Elementary (PreK-3) Saltar's Point Elementary (Grades 4-5) Pioneer Middle School (Grades 6-8) Steilacoom High School (Grades 9-12) This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a collaborative, student-centered team where your expertise is valued and your work has a direct positive impact on our school community. Minimum Qualifications and Skills Successful experience or demonstrated commitment toward working with culturally and racially diverse students, families and communities. Successful completion of a teacher certification program at an accredited college or university and valid Washington state certification with endorsements in Special Education. Knowledge of strength-focused instructional strategies for students that promotes autonomy, cooperation and student voice. Experience or skill in creating a caring classroom environment that is orderly, purposeful and facilitates student learning. Experience or skill in planning, preparing and delivering differentiated instruction that facilitates active learning. Experience supporting adult learners about best instructional strategies for students with disabilities, including recognition of the role anxiety may play in a student's progress with services. Demonstrated skill or experience supporting and contributing to the success of students with disabilities, including supporting students who exhibit unsafe stress responses. Understanding of how injustice or racial inequity may impact students and families experience with school and special education. Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others. Experience or skill in leading, scheduling and supporting para-educators assigned to the classroom. Training or experience with Right Response or desire to be trained. Strong relationship building skills to work with other educators and partners to provide services. Ability to maintain confidentiality, work effectively under pressure, and remain flexible. Ability to maintain records with strong attention to detail. Ability to maintain regular, in-person physical presence at the assigned work location during scheduled work hours. Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
