This position provides direct instruction to students utilizing Board-approved curricula and teaching materials, teacher-designed lessons, and other instructional tools that align with Washington State Standards or other appropriate materials as approved by WSD Administration. This position may be assigned to teach different grade levels within the K-12 program, with initial emphasis to elementary grade levels. Duties Designing and delivering engaging lessons and materials. Implementation of differentiated instruction for different learning needs. Responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, and revision of the Individual Education Plan (IEP). Utilize ASL English bilingual strategies in all instruction. Establish and maintain a positive learning environment conducive to promote academic and social growth of the student. Serve as an appropriate role model. Consistently use effective classroom behavior management and intervention techniques. Document behavior data in accordance with school policies and procedures. Provide ongoing effective and professional communication with parents/guardians and school staff. Prepare year-long curriculum maps, unit plans, daily lesson plans, and lessons for substitute teachers. May be required to organize and supervise class projects, field trips, or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities. Engage in ongoing professional development. Qualifications Valid Washington State certification to teach. Master's degree in Deaf Education and related appropriate endorsements. Ability to communicate fluently with students, school staff, parents, and school district personnel using American Sign Language (ASL) and written English. Knowledge of the unique educational needs of deaf and hard of hearing students including knowledge of ASL, Deaf culture, and community. Ability to use a variety of technologies effectively. Ability to use professional judgment and willingness to participate in ongoing staff development and professional training activities. An understanding and training in use of bilingual ASL-English strategies in the classroom required. Ability to collaborate with other professionals and operate as team when needed. Professional experience as a classroom teacher preferred. Supplemental Information CDHY is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
