A Day in the Life A typical day as a Teacher with Montgomery Public Schools begins with reviewing lesson plans or provided instructional materials before students arrive. You'll greet students as they enter the classroom, establish a productive learning environment, and deliver structured instruction aligned with grade-level standards. Throughout the day, you'll facilitate discussions, guide independent and group work, monitor student understanding, and provide real-time feedback and support. You'll manage classroom behavior with consistency and care, ensuring all students feel safe and respected. Between classes or during planning periods, you may communicate with school staff, document attendance, and prepare for upcoming lessons. The day wraps up with a smooth student dismissal and any necessary end-of-day administrative tasks. Success in this role looks like engaged students, a well-managed classroom, and a seamless continuation of learning. Responsibilities Deliver clear, engaging, and standards-aligned instruction across assigned subject areas and grade levels. Manage the classroom environment to maintain a safe, respectful, and productive learning atmosphere. Follow lesson plans provided by the school or develop appropriate instructional activities when plans are unavailable. Monitor and accurately document student attendance at the start of each class period or school day. Provide timely feedback and support to students to reinforce understanding and address learning gaps. Communicate professionally with school administrators, staff, and parents as needed. Enforce school rules, policies, and procedures consistently and fairly. Adapt instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including those with IEPs or 504 plans. Review lesson plans or provided instructional materials before students arrive. Greet students and establish a productive learning environment at the start of the day or class period. Facilitate discussions; guide independent and group work. Monitor student understanding and provide real-time feedback and support throughout lessons. Manage classroom behavior with consistency and care, ensuring all students feel safe and respected. Communicate with school staff between classes or during planning periods. Prepare for upcoming lessons during planning periods. Ensure a smooth student dismissal and complete necessary end-of-day administrative tasks. Support the academic and social-emotional growth of each learner. Ensure continuity of learning and promote student success each day. Requirements Required ! High school diploma or equivalent. ! Ability to pass a background check in accordance with Alabama state and district requirements. ! Demonstrated ability to work effectively with school-age children in an educational setting. ! Strong classroom management skills. ! Strong communication skills. Preferred Bachelor's degree in education or a related field strongly preferred. Active Alabama Teaching Certificate or eligibility for certification through the Alabama State Department of Education. Prior classroom teaching or substitute teaching experience in a K-12 setting. Familiarity with Alabama Course of Study standards. Familiarity with differentiated instruction strategies. Flexibility and adaptability to varying hours and assignments based on school need. Professionalism in all interactions and duties. Genuine commitment to student achievement. Ability to deliver standards-aligned instruction across subject areas and grade levels. Ability to develop appropriate instructional activities when lesson plans are unavailable. Ability to accurately monitor and document attendance. Ability to provide timely feedback and support to address learning gaps. Ability to enforce school rules, policies, and procedures consistently and fairly. Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including students with IEPs or 504 plans. Availability to accept assignments on short notice and flexibility with daily schedule during the school year. Ability to communicate professionally with school administrators, staff, and parents. Comfort working in an on-demand/substitute capacity where hours are not guaranteed. Ability to support students' academic and social-emotional growth. Benefits of joining Spur Pay Rate $100/day.
