Until Filled The Steamboat Springs School District is seeking a qualified Biliteracy Teacher - Long Term Substitute for the 2026-2027 school year at Sleeping Giant School SSSD is consistently awarded "Accredited with Distinction" by the Colorado Department of Education and ranked as a top school district in the state. Our schools offer curriculum and academic programs designed to give students the skills they need to compete in college and the workplace. SALARY INFORMATION
Placement is based on a maximum of 9 years of experience, verified full time teaching (not substitute) experience and education. $55,000.00 - $81,788.00 (PhD) See salary schedule here , Salary will be prorated based on number of days worked. This is a temporary position, non renewed at the end of 2026/27 school year. Candidates must have a Colorado substitute teaching certificate or Colorado teaching license.
SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for fostering additive bilingualism by developing literacy and academic proficiency in both Spanish (L1) and English (L2). The biliteracy teacher will collaborate with district teams to refine biliteracy program models aligned with state recommendations, provide instructional support to colleagues, and oversee the data-driven placement and progress of Multilingual Learners with school ELD staff.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Excellence & Environment Share essential questions and learning goals with students; pace lessons to meet individual student needs while maintaining high conceptual rigor Establish a learning environment where students are expected to explain their thinking and engage in academic discourse in both languages Provide timely, specific, and substantive feedback to students, creating provisions for them to use that feedback to improve their own learning Analyze the relationship between instructional activities and student success, using specific evidence to justify adjustments to future lessons Instructional Design & Biliteracy Framework Design and deliver instruction aligned with SSSD Curriculum Frameworks to ensure students achieve biliterate academic growth Deliver rigorous, content-based literacy and language arts instruction in Spanish. Collaborate with English-medium teachers to scaffold reading and writing instruction across both languages Design instruction so that authentic, thematic, cross-curricular integration is evident and supports transfer of literacy skills between L1 and L2 Guide students in aural and oral skills to build academic language; facilitate authentic, thematic, and cross-curricular integration. (Both in English and in Spanish) Assessment, Data Administration & Compliance Co-lead and administer ACCESS for ELLs and W-APT testing; maintain current WIDA certifications. Co-organize and complete all designation, re-designation, and exit documentation in accordance with state and federal requirements. Use ACCESS, interim, and progress monitoring data to evaluate program effectiveness and adjust Tier I, II, and III supports. Collaborate with the District Data Specialist & building ELD personnel to ensure accurate ELD data for the October 1 Count. Collaboration, Leadership & Professional Development Act as a resource for general education and special education staff, modeling instruction and finding effective ways to work with ML students through appropriate scaffolding and differentiation Collaborate with the District CLDE Team to design and implement a K-12 biliteracy pathway Co-facilitate school-wide training on ACCESS data, WIDA tools, biliteracy program models (e.g., Late Exit, Two-Way), and culturally responsive practices Establish and maintain positive, linguistically accessible communication with ML families Actively participate in MTSS data team meetings to integrate language proficiency data into problem-solving and intervention planning Professional Growth & Ethics Actively seek out professional development opportunities and share learning with the broader school community Assume leadership roles within the building and district to advocate for the needs of Multilingual Learners Respond to staff and family concerns in a sensitive, culturally responsive, and professional manner Other Complies with district and school policies and procedures Ensures the accuracy, completeness, confidentiality, and security of all student information Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in education Currently possesses or is able to secure State of Colorado teacher license issued through CDE. Possess or willing to work towards CDE's Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) and Bilingual Education endorsement (Grades K-12) Strongly preferred Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English, with demonstrated academic-level proficiency in Spanish sufficient to deliver content and literacy instruction in Spanish as the primary language of instruction Experience with or willingness to participate in district-level biliteracy program redesign in alignment with CDE recommendations Understands or is willing to learn and gain knowledge of WIDA standards, ELD strategies, and the Full Primary Language Foundation model

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract concrete variables. Ability to analyze and use data to supervise the delivery of instruction and the school improvement process.
Technology Skills:
Proficient use of technology which includes: basic operations and concepts, word processing, spreadsheets, internet usage, critical evaluation of information, data analysis, email, integration of technology.

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in education. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to copy, coordinate, instruct, evaluate and negotiate. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to discipline students consistent with district procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
