As one of the region's trusted public school districts, Griffin Spalding County Schools is committed to providing a safe, engaging, and high-quality learning environment for every student. By joining as a Substitute Teacher, you play a vital role in ensuring continuity of education when regular classroom teachers are unavailable. This is an on-call, substitute position where hours are not guaranteed and are flexible based on district need. Assignments are offered on an as-needed basis, making this an excellent opportunity for individuals who value schedule flexibility while still making a meaningful impact in students' lives. Whether you're a retired educator, a college graduate exploring a career in education, or someone passionate about working with young people, this role offers a rewarding way to contribute to your community. To be considered for this position, candidates must be 21 years of age or older and hold at minimum a High School Diploma or GED. All candidates are required to complete a Georgia Gemalto Background Check, Substitute Training, and review the Griffin Spalding Employee Handbook prior to beginning work. This role is ideal for individuals who are professional, punctual, and genuinely enjoy fostering a positive classroom environment for students of all ages and learning levels. A Day in the Life When you receive a substitute assignment, your day begins by arriving at the assigned school on time and checking in with the front office to receive classroom keys, attendance rosters, and any special instructions. Once in the classroom, you'll review and implement the lesson plans left by the regular teacher, assign classwork and homework as directed, and maintain a structured and respectful classroom environment throughout the day. You'll take attendance using the school's established procedures, manage student behavior with a calm and consistent approach, and set up any basic technology needed to support instruction — whether that's a projector, a laptop, or an interactive whiteboard. At the end of the day, you'll complete a daily report for the classroom teacher summarizing how the day went, what was covered, and any notable student behavior or concerns. Success in this role looks like students who feel supported and on-track, a classroom that remains orderly and productive, and a regular teacher who returns to find their class in great hands. Responsibilities Implement teacher-prepared lesson plans to ensure instructional continuity during the regular teacher's absence Assign and explain classwork and homework to students in accordance with the teacher's instructions Maintain classroom control and discipline, creating a safe and respectful learning environment Complete a detailed daily report for the classroom teacher summarizing activities, student behavior, and any notable incidents Take accurate attendance in accordance with school procedures and report any discrepancies to the appropriate staff Set up and operate basic technology equipment to support classroom instruction Follow all school rules, policies, and procedures at all times Communicate professionally with school staff, administrators, and students to ensure a smooth and productive school day Requirements Required !
