Super Sub / Before Care Instructional Aide
REPORTS TO
Principal Summary Description Properly trained paraprofessionals play an essential role in improving student achievement and supporting a positive school environment. The Super Sub / Before Care Instructional Aide provides instructional, behavioral, and supervisory support to students while reinforcing and enhancing classroom instruction under the direction of certified staff. This position includes supervising students during before-school care, providing instructional support, and serving as a substitute in classrooms as needed. The instructional aide will monitor classroom activities, support student learning, and help maintain a safe, respectful, and productive environment. Job Responsibilities 1. Building Instructional Capacity Fill in for classroom teachers and support personnel on a daily or as-needed basis. Monitor classroom instruction and maintain awareness of student activities and behaviors. Take attendance by class period and follow established school procedures. Follow procedures outlined in the student handbook and school expectations. Effectively manage classroom behavior while maintaining a caring, patient, and respectful approach. Assist administrators, counselors, teachers, and building staff as needed. Provide one-on-one or small group support to students under the direct supervision of a classroom teacher. Reinforce instruction and assist students with assigned tasks without introducing new concepts or direct planned instruction. Assist with classroom management by organizing instructional materials and helping maintain an orderly learning environment. Maintain individual records for identified students as required. Provide instructional support in classrooms, libraries, or media centers as assigned. Interact with students respectfully using age-appropriate language and best practices. Guide student behavior in positive ways that encourage independence and safe interactions. Support and implement all policies and regulations established by the school and district. Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality regarding student information as expected of classroom teachers. 2. Before Care Responsibilities Supervise students during before-school care hours in a safe, structured, and positive environment. Maintain awareness of student activities to ensure safety and well-being. Model appropriate play, communication, and peer interaction skills. Assist students with basic hygiene, toileting, or diapering needs when necessary. Maintain a clean, organized, and healthy environment for students. Communicate positively and respectfully with students, families, and staff members. 3. Planning & Professional Learning Accept direction willingly from supervising teachers, administrators, and building leadership. Participate in professional learning and training opportunities as assigned. Work collaboratively and positively with all building staff. Follow instructional direction provided by classroom teachers to support student success. 4. Student Support Build positive relationships with students while helping foster self-esteem and confidence. Guide students in working and playing cooperatively with peers. Utilize a variety of resources to support students in meeting academic, behavioral, and social-emotional goals. Remain positive and supportive when working with identified students. Qualifications & Skills Required Educational Requirements High school diploma or GED required. Valid driver's license. Successful completion of a background check. Completed new hire/application requirements. Minimum of two years of passing college credits or a passing score on the Paraprofessional Test. Substitute permit required. Must be available to work beginning at 6:30 a.m., Monday-Friday . Skills & Knowledge Knowledge and skills necessary to assist students in meeting academic and performance standards. Ability to effectively support students and staff in both classroom and care settings. Strong interpersonal, communication, and classroom management skills. Punctual, dependable, and maintains excellent attendance. Willingness to participate fully in training necessary for success in the role. Experience Two years of passing college credits or successful completion of the Paraprofessional Test required. Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.
