Job Title:
Gifted Resource Room Teacher Position Function:
The Gifted Resource Room Teacher is directly responsible to the building administrator for assistance in the development of mental, social, emotional, and physical growth of each pupil assigned to the teacher's class.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
Is present during those hours when the teacher has an assigned responsibility with pupils while school is in session Prepares completely and adequately to carry out his/her responsibilities to his/her pupils Performs the necessary administrative work related to the assignment, including completion of all reports required by the teaching assignment and the building administration Attends all staff conferences, individual conferences between teacher and administrator, and is available for pupil and parent conferences, including conferences for writing IEP's and staffing for special education Supervises pupils in and around the school building for a reasonable period of time before and after the school day Conducts instructional programs in a manner consistent with the curricular objectives of the course Teaches with an understanding and respect for the individuality of each pupil Teaches with a scrupulous regard for honesty and accuracy without distortion or falsification Evaluates his/her instruction in a continual effort to meet the highest standards set by the teaching profession Adheres strictly to professional ethics Maintains and enforces discipline and pupil control and enforces school regulations Makes necessary referrals of pupils to other professional personnel or specialist Makes provisions to assure that substitute teachers will have adequate direction in their work Fully performs supplemental assignments, if any, in a professional manner Conducts tasks such as planning, grading, and telephone conferences Undertakes efforts, which promote professional growth at his/her own discretion Collects and accounts through appropriate records all money to be used for educational purposes and exercises reasonable care to assure that any money collected will not be lost Reports all cases of suspected child abuse or neglect Carries out the duties and responsibilities, which are assigned Observes, enforces, and is directed by the policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the school district Attends programs designed for the involvement of parents, students, and community patrons when school is not in session as determined by the school building committee Assumes responsibility for keeping parents informed between grading periods when pupil performance is less than satisfactory or when performance deviates from reasonable expectation for an individual pupil
Additional Duties:
Assists with additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Equipment:
The employee must demonstrate the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and fax machine. Must always comply with WPS guidelines for equipment use.
Travel:
Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands:
Works in standard office and school building environments Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities Additional demands upon request of Principal, Superintendent Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficient oral and written communication skills Proficient personal relationship skills Ability to organize, communicates effectively, make decisions, work independently and as a member of the Teaching Specialist team. Basic computer proficiency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook which will be determined and validated by testing Use of good judgment to make decisions on recurring assignments Ability to perform a variety of tasks, meet deadlines, and work in a calm and efficient manner Ability to work with little or no supervision Ability to communicate effectively with a supervisor when their discretion is needed Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
Interrelations:
Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service
Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position
Qualification Profile:
Valid Kansas Teaching License required Gifted Endorsement required
