The English Department seeks candidates who embody APS's values that include high achievement for all students, teaching excellence, collaboration, innovation, respect, and responsibility. APS is committed to increasing the hiring of faculty and staff so that the district personnel reflect the racial and ethnic diversity of the student body. Integrate social learning into the classroom and work to foster an identity-safe, empathetic, active learning community. Develop and implement lesson plans for five classes of ELA that articulate clear learning targets aligned with both the 2017 Massachusetts State ELA Standards and the APS ELA curriculum. Communicate regularly with students and families and involve families as partners in their child's education. Collaborate with all team members, including but not limited to, special educators, instructional coaches, paraprofessionals, interventionists, and other support personnel. Assess students regularly and refine and differentiate classroom instruction based on assessment data and student needs Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, alongside the ability to establish and maintain productive and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff and student body. Knowledge of Common Core/MA 2017 Curriculum Framework for English Language Arts. A strong work ethic and a growth mindset Strong classroom community-building skills and restorative justice approaches to discipline. Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. Massachusetts Teacher Certification in 9-12 English Language Arts required.
