Job Description

Job Summary Holy Cross Academy seeks reliable, professional, and faith-supportive Substitute Teachers to provide short-term instructional support when classroom teachers are absent. Substitute Teachers maintain continuity of learning, uphold classroom routines, and support the Catholic mission of the school while ensuring a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment for students.
Catholic Identity & Mission Support Supports and upholds the mission, philosophy, and values of Holy Cross Academy and the Catholic Church.
Models respectful behavior and reinforces Gospel values in interactions with students and staff.
Participates appropriately in prayer and faith-related activities as part of the school day. Classroom Coverage & Instructional Support Follows lesson plans, schedules, and instructions provided by the regular classroom teacher.
Provides clear directions and instructional support to students as needed.
Maintains continuity of instruction across a variety of subjects and grade levels as assigned.
Uses sound judgment to adapt instruction when necessary while maintaining academic expectations. Classroom Management & Student Safety Establishes and maintains a positive, orderly, and respectful classroom environment.
Enforces school rules, procedures, and behavior expectations consistently and fairly.
Ensures student safety at all times, including during transitions, lunch, recess, and dismissal.
Responds calmly and appropriately to classroom challenges or emergencies. Professionalism & Collaboration Demonstrates punctuality, dependability, flexibility, and professionalism.
Communicates respectfully and effectively with administrators, faculty, and staff.
Provides clear feedback to teachers and administration regarding lesson completion, student behavior, and concerns.
Maintains confidentiality at all times. Reliability & Adaptability Is available on an on-call or scheduled basis as needed.
Adapts quickly to different classroom settings, student needs, and grade levels.
Demonstrates initiative and problem-solving skills in the absence of direct supervision. Qualifications High school diploma required; college coursework or degree preferred.
Experience working with children or in educational settings preferred.
Must support the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church.
Ability to pass background check and complete required diocesan training.
