Job Summary The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. In a Catholic school setting, the substitute also supports the faith-based mission of the school by modeling respectful behavior, reinforcing Catholic values, and helping maintain a positive, structured learning environment.

Job Responsibilities Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher Deliver instruction and supervise students in a variety of grade levels (e.g., K-8) Maintain classroom order and uphold school discipline policies Create a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment Take attendance and manage classroom routines Adapt to different classroom settings, subjects, and age groups as needed Communicate relevant information about the day to the regular teacher and administration Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, or dismissal as assigned Support and participate respectfully in school prayer or religious activities Job Requirements Substitute teaching permit or state certification (as required by state/diocese) Experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting Ability to follow directions and manage a classroom effectively The Archdiocese of St. Louis Catholic Education and Formation is an Equal Opportunity Employer and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind.
