To enable each child to pursue his or her educational career as smoothly and completely as possible during the absence of the regular classroom teacher. A Substitute Teacher in the Natchez Adams School District provides instruction and classroom supervision in the absence of the regular teacher. Substitutes are expected to follow lesson plans, maintain classroom order, and ensure students remain engaged in educational activities. They play a crucial role in supporting the academic, behavioral, and social success of students while ensuring a safe and productive learning environment.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Report to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school. 2. Review with the principal all plans and schedules that must be followed throughout the teaching day. 3. Maintain as fully as possible the established routine and procedure of the school and classroom to which assigned. 4. Teaches the lesson outlines and described in the Substitute Teacher's guideline as prepared by the absent teacher. 5. Assumes responsibility for overseeing student behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods. 6. Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates. 7. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.Classroom Instruction & Supervision:
Implement and follow the lesson plans provided by the regular teacher. Adapt teaching methods when necessary to support student learning. Facilitate student activities and assignments while ensuring engagement. Maintain a structured and positive learning environment in alignment with district policies.Classroom Management & Student Behavior:
Uphold and enforce district discipline policies and classroom expectations. Supervise students at all times, including transitions, lunch, and recess as required. Report any disciplinary issues, safety concerns, or student misconduct to school administration. Ensure students respect school property, materials, and rules.Student Support & Engagement:
Assist students with their work and provide instructional support as needed. Address individual student needs and accommodate diverse learning styles. Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom atmosphere.Communication & Reporting:
Maintain clear communication with school staff and administration. Leave a detailed summary for the returning teacher, including student progress, behavioral notes, and any issues encountered. Follow all district protocols for emergencies, attendance, and reporting incidents.Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Certification:
Must have High school diploma or GED Must have a minimum of 24 hours of College credits or Work Keys Assessment. Preferred but NOT required - degree, Mississippi teaching licenseSkills & Abilities:
Strong classroom management skills and ability to maintain discipline. Effective communication skills to interact with students, staff, and administrators. Adaptability and flexibility in working with different age groups and learning styles. Ability to follow lesson plans and support student learning in a structured environment. Professionalism and confidentiality in handling student and school information.Work Schedule & Expectations:
Work on an as-needed basis, with flexible scheduling depending on district needs. Expected to be punctual and reliable, arriving at least 15-30 minutes before the school day starts. Dress professionally and adhere to district dress code policies. Follow all district policies, emergency procedures, and student confidentiality guidelines.Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and supervise students for extended periods. May require lifting, bending, or assisting students with physical needs. Work is performed in a classroom setting with occasional outdoor supervision (e.g., recess, bus duty).Compensation:
Pay rate varies by certification and assignment type (daily sub, long-term sub, certified sub in area, certified sub out of area). Substitute Teacher pay scale. Start @ $100.00 daily Other information required to determine additional pay rate.Application Process:
