67 per hour Position Location (City) Greenville Position Type Non-Faculty Job Category Non-Faculty Instructional & Research Primary Function of Organizational Unit The East Carolina Community School involves cross campus collaboration to provide the students a spectrum of support and services to comprehensively address their academic, social-emotional, physical, and family/community needs. The school will include one class per grade level for kindergarten through 5th grade. The ECU Community school involves an integrated partnership with Pitt County Schools and will be housed within a local elementary school. The ECU Community School is housed within South Greenville Elementary School. Substitute teachers at the ECU Community School report to the ECU Community School Principal. Job Duties The College of Education is currently seeking a pool of individuals available to serve as University Community School Substitute Teachers in elementary classrooms within the East Carolina University Community School on an as-needed basis. This is a temporary, exempt professional staff ( EPS) position in the College of Education. As an educator within the ECU Community School, the substitute teacher will work within a culture of innovation that supports effective instructional practices/strategies to promote student academic and personal success for all students in the school. The substitute teacher will work collaboratively with others to facilitate and implement innovative instruction to achieve the mission of the school. The substitute teacher will work collaboratively with the ECU Community School Principal and university faculty/staff to support the successful social-emotional, physical, and academic development of the students within.
Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate the instructional plans of the classroom teacher and school to ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out the total community school program.
  • Implement the planned innovative strategies and integration of a variety of support services for students.
  • Implement behavioral and social-emotional strategies to foster a positive climate for learning.
  • Receive visitors within the assigned classroom for the purpose of instruction, assistance, research, and observation.
This position is contingent upon available funding. Minimum Education/Experience Bachelor's degree in elementary education (K-6); excellent oral and written communication skills; and evidence of skill in working with at risk student populations. Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions. License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation None Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education Current or past professional North Carolina teaching license in elementary education (K-6) preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience with various student groups. Demonstrated experience performing in a self-directed capacity; organized with attention to detail; innovation and outcome oriented; technologically proficient across multiple platforms; possess strong interpersonal relationship skills including collaboration with various individuals; highly motivated and be willing to be receptive to innovative practices/procedures; willing to take the initiative to learn the duties/responsibilities/expectations of the work and operations of the community school; and willing to work alone or as a group/team when necessary.
