Full Job Description Position:
Lower School (PreK-Grade 5) Building Substitute Founded in 1888, The Baldwin School is an all-girls college preparatory, independent day school, PreK-Grade 12, dedicated to a tradition of excellence in education. The Baldwin School is seeking a full-time Building Substitute , with responsibility for maintaining consistent education in Pre-Kindergarten - Grade 5 classrooms when other teachers are unable to perform their teaching duties. All Baldwin teachers participate in the life of the School and support the School's mission. Successful candidates will possess excellent content knowledge and a love of working with students and creating a joyful learning environment. They will teach the subject material effectively, engage students positively with a growth mindset, and interact productively with colleagues and parents. They will possess a high level of energy and flexibility, a sense of humor, and they will have an understanding of and appreciation for girls' education.
Responsibilities:
Perform teaching duties ranging from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5 and including all core curricular subjects (Mathematics, ELA, and Social Studies) and co-curricular special subjects (such as Music, Art, Science, World Languages, etc.); Provide whole class, small group, and individual instruction in classrooms; Foster a positive and nurturing learning environment for students; Work closely with the Head and Assistant Head of Lower School and the Lower School Administrative Assistant for daily classroom placement and tasks; Perform arrival and dismissal duties; Supervise and assist students in navigating daily routines, such as transitions, meal times, and recess; Help maintain clean and organized classroom spaces; Proactively seek to support the School and teachers on days when not assigned to the classroom; Attend faculty/staff meetings, professional development sessions, and community events; and Other duties, as assigned by the Head of Lower School or the Head of School.
Required Qualifications Include:
Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or related field; 1-3 years of classroom teaching experience, preferably in an elementary school setting; Excellent time management and the ability to switch between tasks and prioritize work; Attention to detail and strong organizational, problem solving, and planning skills; Outstanding verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; Experience integrating technology into teaching practice (Google applications, MacBooks/iPads, Promethean Board, etc.); and A commitment to creating inclusive classroom communities and to working actively to introduce students to diverse cultures, experiences, and perspectives.
