Job Description
General Definition of Work The Classroom Assistant Floater supports the teacher in creating and maintaining a positive, organized, and engaging learning environment that promotes the academic, social, and emotional development of all students. This position involves assisting with classroom instruction, preparing learning materials, supervising students to ensure safety and appropriate behavior, and providing individualized support as needed. The Classroom Assistant Floater works under the direction of the classroom teacher and school administration to meet the classroom needs of Rock Hill Schools. Salary/Status Support 4, 185 days/7 hours per day Reports To School Principal Place of Work The normal place of work is on the premises used by Rock Hill Schools. Rock Hill Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time. Essential Functions Assists assigned students with lesson assignments and/or activities for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts. Assist students in independent study (e.g. enrichment work, remedial work, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring students' success. Implements, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving the assigned students' academic success through a defined course of study. Instruct students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study. Meets expectations set for all personnel (e.g. school schedule, dress code, performance) for the purpose of maintaining safe and efficient school operations within District guidelines and policies. Monitors assigned students according to predefined schedule in classroom, field trips, and related arts for the purpose of ensuring a safe and positive learning environment. Assist with record keeping and clerical functions relating to the assigned students (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the assigned classroom teacher. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of basic child development and classroom management principles. Understanding of instructional support practices and student supervision techniques. Skill in communicating effectively with students, teachers, and parents. Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with classroom and school staff. Ability to assist in implementing lesson plans and reinforcing learning activities. Skill in maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Ability to manage time, organize materials, and handle multiple tasks efficiently. Basic computer and educational technology skills to support classroom activities. Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emergencies or challenging situations. Education and Experience Minimum employment requirements; high school diploma; college background preferred Requirements within six (6) months of employment At least two years of study (60 semester hours) at an accredited institution of higher education; or an associate's degree (or higher); or an approved state or local academic assessment that measures the paraprofessional's knowledge of and ability to assist in instruction at the appropriate level. Paraprofessionals may meet the assessment requirement by passing the ParaPro Assessment (ETS.org). The minimum passing score on this test is 456. Special Requirements Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation Physical Requirements/Work Conditions Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally required to sit. Frequently squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. Frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this position. Must be able to occasionally lift or physically support students during the day in compliance with safety guidelines. May occasionally push/pull items such as tables and seating. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Will regularly work indoors and may occasionally work outdoors. Will work near moving mechanical equipment and may occasionally work near or with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Frequent interruptions and immediate attention to unexpected situations are expected.
