General Responsibilities:
Provides supervision and instruction to students in the absence of a teacher or an instructional assistant.
Essential Duties:
(This list is intended solely as an illustration of the various types of work performed. Provides meaningful instruction to students in assigned classrooms when the classroom teacher or instructional assistant is absent. Reviews and implements regular teacher's routines, procedures, lesson plans, and curriculum objectives. Supervises, establishes and maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment. Reports any student injuries, illness, and serious discipline problems to school administration. Communicates effectively with students, staff and other stakeholders. Leaves feedback and notes for the regular classroom teacher Assists with non-classroom duties when assigned Models professional experience, attitude, and demeanor. Maintains student and staff confidentiality Performs other duties as directed by school administration.
Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Enjoys working with children and is interested in their academic growth. Possess problem-solving skills, imagination, patience, reasoning, creativity, judgment, and analytical abilities. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally. Possess the ability to plan appropriate educational activities for students when there are no plans available or when assigned because of an emergency. Ability to successfully work with diverse populations. Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education. Ability to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, community, and other school system staff;
Requisite Education and Experience:
Must possess a High School Diploma or GED. Must possess at least 60 college credit hours; or an Associate's Degree or higher; or have successfully passed the ParaPro Assessment. Must be twenty-one (21) years of age. Some knowledge of the teaching and learning process preferred. Previous experience working with children/students. Serve as a role model.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
