Job Description

The Floating Substitute Teacher is a versatile, dynamic educator who serves as a vital anchor for our school community. Unlike traditional day-to-day substitutes, the Floating Substitute reports to the school every day, ready to step into whatever classroom or role requires coverage. Whether leading a Kindergarten reading circle, managing a 4th-grade math lesson, or supporting a special education classroom, this individual ensures that high-quality learning continues seamlessly when standard teachers are absent.

At Johnson Elementary School, our community is tight-knit. The Floating Substitute isn't just a temporary placeholder; they are a familiar, trusted face to our students and a reliable teammate to our staff. This role offers the unique reward of building relationships with every student in the building across their entire elementary journey.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesA floating substitute's day is rarely predictable, requiring a high degree of adaptability. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Classroom Instruction:
Deliver pre-planned lesson plans with enthusiasm and fidelity across grades K5.
Adaptability & Improvisation:
In the event that lesson plans are unavailable, utilize school-approved backup curricula and creative teaching strategies to keep students engaged and learning.
Classroom Management:
Establish and maintain a safe, positive, and structured learning environment using the schools existing behavior management systems.
Student Supervision:
Fulfill daily supervisory duties as assigned, including morning arrival, recess, lunchroom monitoring, and afternoon dismissal.
Flexible Support:
When classroom coverage is not needed, assist with small-group interventions, help in the main office, support the media center, or aid classroom teachers with administrative or instructional tasks.
Communication:
Leave detailed notes for the returning classroom teacher regarding student progress, behavior, and any completed or incomplete work.

LNSU provides a generous compensation and benefit package and is an EOE.
