This position is for the FY27 school year. JFK is a Title I school proud of the rich linguistic and cultural diversity our students bring to every classroom. We are a deeply inclusive, student-centered community where multilingual learners are celebrated and where language development is seen as central to every child's academic identity and growth. We are looking for an educator who believes that a student's home language is an asset, who knows how to meet learners where they are while holding high expectations, and who thrives in a collaborative, joyful school environment. Position Overview The ML Teacher will design and deliver English language development instruction to Kindergarten multilingual learners representing diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and a wide range of English proficiency levels. All instruction is aligned with WIDA standards, the EL Education Language Arts curriculum, and Illustrative Mathematics, and is grounded in equity-centered pedagogical practice. The position is collaborative by design. The ML Teacher will co-plan and co-teach alongside general education teachers and specialists, and will serve as an active member of the school-wide ML team to coordinate targeted support that addresses both academic language development and social growth. Key Responsibilities Plan and deliver differentiated English language development instruction aligned with WIDA standards and the EL Education and Illustrative Mathematics curricula. Co-plan and co-teach with classroom teachers and instructional specialists to integrate language development across content areas. Administer, interpret, and apply formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction. Maintain accurate documentation and meet reporting requirements related to ML programming. Foster a culturally responsive, inclusive classroom environment with high expectations for every student. Build respectful, effective partnerships with families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Ideal Candidate Will Demonstrate a strong, sustained commitment to equity and inclusive teaching practices. Bring excellent collaboration and co-teaching skills across interdisciplinary settings. Build positive, trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Create a culturally responsive learning environment oriented toward high achievement. Hold a deep belief that every student, regardless of race, economic status, or home language, deserves a high-quality education and is capable of success. Communicate effectively and respectfully, including in complex or challenging conversations. Step confidently into an established classroom community mid-year and build trust quickly with students and families. Qualification Requirements Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Valid Vermont ML (ESOL/ELL) teaching license or endorsement; candidates actively pursuing licensure with relevant experience will be considered. Demonstrated experience with equity-centered instructional practices. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse colleagues and families. Flexibility, resilience, and a growth mindset. Essential Duties Planning & Instruction Design and deliver differentiated instruction aligned with WIDA standards and the EL Education and Illustrative Mathematics curricula. Co-plan with general and special educators to meet both student language and content needs. Use student data, language acquisition theory, and cultural understanding to guide instruction. Classroom Environment Establish a welcoming, culturally responsive, and safe learning environment. Build clear routines and proactive behavior supports that promote student independence. Create a classroom culture grounded in high expectations, respect, and collaboration. Student Engagement & Assessment Use varied instructional strategies, scaffolds, and questioning techniques to engage every learner. Monitor progress through formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction accordingly. Encourage student reflection, goal-setting, and peer collaboration to support academic and language growth. ML Program Implementation Conduct language proficiency assessments and monitor student progress in alignment with WIDA standards and district guidelines. Partner with family liaisons and families to support home language maintenance and English development. Distinguish between language acquisition needs and potential learning differences, design and implement targeted supports, and make referrals when appropriate. Professional & Family Collaboration Communicate regularly with families using culturally responsive practices and accessible formats. Participate actively in professional learning, team collaboration, and school and district initiatives. Reflect on practice, seek feedback, and uphold high professional and ethical standards. JFK Elementary is a diverse, student-centered school community dedicated to educational equity and joyful learning. We are proud of the educators who show up for our students every day and are excited to add a committed, skilled ML teacher to our team.Position Type:
