Full-Time | In-Person About Carousel Carousel Child Care Center has been serving Anchorage families since 1968. We're a licensed child care center serving approximately 100 children daily, ages 12 months through 12 years, across seven classrooms in Anchorage. We participate in the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and implement the Pyramid Model for social-emotional learning. The Role As a Teaching Assistant at Carousel, you work directly with children alongside a Lead Teacher in one of our classrooms. You're not filing papers or watching from the corner — you're in the room, with the kids, doing the work. You'll receive full on-the-job training and ongoing support from your Lead Teacher and the administrative team. What you'll be doing: Supporting the Lead Teacher in maintaining a safe, supervised, and engaging classroom environment Welcoming children and signing them in to Tadpoles as they arrive Completing name-to-face counts every hour and after every transition Maintaining line-of-sight supervision of all children at all times Using positive guidance techniques consistent with the Pyramid Model Assisting with CACFP meal service and counts when the Lead Teacher is not in the room Completing accident reports and Behavior Incident Reports (BIRs) as they occur, before end of shift Keeping cubies clean, organized, and labeled daily Completing and signing daily and weekly cleaning checklists Following the daily schedule set by the Lead Teacher What We're Looking For 18 years of age or older Ability to pass an Alaska Background Check (NABCS) associated with Carousel's facility Current pediatric CPR and First Aid certification from an approved in-person provider, OR willingness to obtain before your first day Completion of Health and Safety training and Mandatory Reporter training within 30 days of hire Genuine interest in working with young children Reliable — the kids and your team depend on you showing up A high school diploma or GED is preferred. No prior childcare experience required. Schedule Full-time staff work five 8-hour shifts per week. An optional 4x10 flexible schedule (four 10-hour shifts per week) is also available under Alaska's approved Flexible Work Hour Plan for eligible employees who prefer it. Shifts are available across the 6:30 AM-6:00 PM operating window, Monday-Friday.
