Berryville Elementary School Job Summary Are you passionate about helping young learners discover the joy of reading? We are seeking a dedicated, patient, and energetic Literacy Intervention Paraprofessional to support our Kindergarten through 2nd-grade students. In this role, you will work closely with classroom teachers and literacy specialists to deliver targeted, small-group reading interventions. Your mission will be to help students build critical foundational skills—such as phonics, phonemic awareness, and fluency—ensuring every child has the tools they need to become a confident, lifelong reader.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Deliver Targeted Interventions:
Lead small groups or one-on-one sessions using evidence-based literacy programs and strategies prescribed by the lead teacher or reading specialist.
Support Foundational Skills:
Focus instruction on critical early literacy areas, including letter-sound recognition, phonemic awareness, sight words, decoding, and reading fluency.
Monitor and Document Progress:
Keep accurate, daily records of student performance and anecdotal notes to help track progress toward literacy goals.
Collaborate Seamlessly:
Partner with classroom teachers and instructional coaches to align intervention activities with core classroom instruction and student data.
Manage Student Behavior:
Maintain a positive, structured, and encouraging learning environment that fosters student confidence and engagement.
Prepare Instructional Materials:
Organize, adapt, and set up literacy games, decodable texts, and multi-sensory tools before each session. Assist with

Help administer routine progress monitoring or benchmarking assessments (e.g., DIBELS, Acadience, or similar tools) as directed.
Qualifications & Skills Education:
High School Diploma or GED required AND one of the following: Associate degree or higher. At least 48 college semester hours. Passing score on the ParaPro Assessment (or state-equivalent exam).
Experience:
Previous experience working with primary-aged children (K-2) in an educational, tutoring, or childcare setting is highly preferred.
Knowledge:
Familiarity with the Science of Reading , structured literacy, or phonics-based instruction is a major plus.

A genuine love for working with young children who may be struggling or frustrated.
Communication:
Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with staff and motivating students.
Adaptability:
Ability to pivot strategies on the fly if a student is not grasping a concept.
Organization:
Excellent time-management skills to keep multiple small-group rotations running smoothly. Physical Demands & Work Environment Must be comfortable working in a vibrant primary school environment.
