Job Description

Paraprofessional Hermitage School District Summary:
Assists, supports, and works closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing educational benefits for students. Paraprofessionals may be assigned to any position, PreK through Grade 12, depending on student and district needs. Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to): Maintains the confidentiality of events related to students, staff, school, and district Mandated reporter to the Hot Line when there is suspected abuse and neglect Communicate with parents and guardians under supervision. Works with individual students or small groups to tutor and reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher, including but not limited to Dyslexia groups, intervention groups, small groups both in and outside of the classroom; Implement strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual student needs, interests, and abilities Guides independent study, enrichment work, or other tasks set up by the teacher; Assists with classroom management, computer laboratories, and library media center, or other duties as assigned as necessary; Provides instructional support in the library, media center, or in classrooms under the direct supervision of a highly qualified teacher; Operates classroom equipment for instructional purposes; Assists in large group activities such as drill work and other forms of oral communication with students; Assists with the supervision of students during lunch periods, play periods, assemblies, field trips, and emergency drills; Assists with the construction and maintenance of bulletin boards and other classroom displays; Assists with the recording of attendance, collection of money, and other clerical functions under the supervision of a highly qualified teacher; Distributes and collects instructional materials; Organizes and conducts parental involvement activities; Duties and responsibilities as assigned by a licensed teacher, building principal, PreK Director, and superintendent. Follow and enforce all state, district, and school handbooks/expectations, policies, and laws
Education and Experience:
Meet highly qualified guidelines for Title I Paraprofessionals before being hired by the Hermitage School District, according to 34 CFR § 200.58 Meet the qualifications required in Section 1111(g)(2)(m) Completed two years of study at an accredited institution of higher education; or Associate's (or higher) degree; or ParaPro Assessment passing scores. Title I Paraprofessional Requirements are located at the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Website at https://dese.ade.arkansas.gov/Offices/Office-of-Special-Education-and-Federal-Program/federal-programs/paraprofessionals Must attend professional development and acquire certification to work with students based on assignments as needed to implement programs
Physical Qualifications:
Must be able to bend and squat to access resources Must be able to work with children ages PreK-12 Must demonstrate a willingness and ability to support students with diverse developmental, academic, behavioral, and personal care needs, including toileting assistance, language development support, and other daily living tasks as required Must be able to reach above the head and be able to grasp and lift objects in positions to access or put away resources weighing around 5 pounds. Must be able to complete multiple tasks throughout the day Must be flexible to modify and adjust to the needs of the students and schools The above list is not exhaustive as this position is a reflection of the office of the superintendent and district. At a minimum, employment eligibility requirements are to be over the age of 16 and provide a driver's license and social security card or other documentation of eligibility to work in the United States of America. Applicants for certified positions must have appropriate certification with the ADE, DESE, or be eligible to obtain such. All applicants must be willing to undergo background and child maltreatment checks and other screenings as required by the Hermitage School District.
