CSPP Associate Teacher Position Overview:
The California State Preschool Associate Teacher at Azusa Discovery Center plays a vital role in creating a nurturing and stimulating environment for students aged 2-5. Under the supervision of the Lead Teacher, and within a teamwork environment, this educator is dedicated to support the planning and implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum that fosters children's growth and wellbeing while serving as a positive role model.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assisting with
Curriculum Development:
Under the supervision of a Lead Teacher, assist in crafting and implement a creative, age-appropriate curriculum that aligns with developmental milestones for students. Help plan, lead and facilitate engaging activities in various areas such as language, literacy, mathematics, science, art, social emotional, and social studies. Incorporate play-based learning strategies and techniques to promote cognitive, physical and social development. Assist with applying evaluation tools such as Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ERS) to support all areas of student development and the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) 2.
Classroom Management:
Assist with creating and maintaining an organized, welcoming, and safe learning environment for students. Manage daily routines and individual care schedules, ensuring each student's needs are met with attention and care. Promote an inclusive atmosphere that values diversity and promotes kindness and cooperation among children. 3.
Individualized Instruction:
Assess the developmental needs and interests of each child and differentiate instruction accordingly based on Lead Teacher recommendations and guidance. Provide support and encouragement to children as they explore and learn new concepts and skills. Document observations and track developmental milestones to inform individual care plans using the

Communication and Collaboration:
Communicate regularly and effectively with other teachers, staff and with parents regarding children's progress, activities, and any concerns. Coordinate clearly with fellow educators to streamline routines, establish goals, meet deadlines, and share resources. Participate in team meetings, professional development sessions and parent-teacher conferences as needed. Act as a role model for communication, literacy, and conflict resolution and help each child develop sense of awareness and self-esteem, and to accept and express their feelings. 5.
Parent Education and Involvement:
Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to increase parent engagement in classroom activities and educational initiatives. Assist in organizing workshops and informational sessions to educate parents on child development and caregiving strategies. Facilitate opportunities for parents to participate in classroom activities and events. 6.
Health, Safety and CACFP Food Program:
Maintain a safe, hygienic learning environment by strictly adhering to health and safety policies, at all times. Supervise students at all times to preemptively address any safety risks or potential hazards. Actively participate in all meal times as required by CACFP Guidelines. Implement emergency procedures effectively when required. 7.
Professional Development:
Stay updated on current trends and best practices in early childhood education. Pursue and participate in professional growth opportunities to enhance caregiving and teaching skills. Complete 22 hours of approved Professional Development yearly, in accordance with Title 22 requirements.
Qualifications:
Associate of Arts (AA) or higher degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a related field and/or Child Development Associate or Commission on Teacher Credentialing - Teacher Permit or higher or Currently attending and enrolled in qualified coursework to attain Associate Degree (AA) Minimum 6-month's experience working with young children in a licensed educational or childcare setting. Strong knowledge of child development principles and early childhood education theories. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues. Patience, creativity, and a genuine passion for working with young children. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and adapt to hanging needs and circumstances.
Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years old.
Criminal Clearance:
(Livescan/fingerprints) and Child Abuse Index Check. (REQUIRED)
Health Exam:
includes TB test and clearance, as well as proof of current immunizations; MMR, TDAP, and Influenza. (REQUIRED) CDSS Mandated Reported (AB1207) training required within first month of employment. Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification and Health & Safety Class required within first 3 months of employment. Knowledge of Title XXII, Title V, Head Start, Creative Curriculum, Desired Results System, Teaching Pyramid, Program for Infant Toddler Care (if applicable).
